Driving games come and driving games go, but Electronic Arts is still feeling the Need for Speed seven years after the series debuted. This time out it's going underground, with a hard as nails racing simulation that takes your ride back to the streets to compete.
Unlike previous NFS titles, Underground lets you race real street cars along real streets. No more exotic supercars here, instead it's manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, Dodge and Peugeot who supply the rides, and you're the one who gets to customise, tweak and trick them out to your heart's content. Literally hundreds of real life car parts are available for you to buy and fit to your car, so that you can make it yours inside and out. From exterior decals, spoilers and hubcaps to interior suspension, nitrous oxide turbo boosts and weight reduction kits, no two cars will be the same in the Underground.
With your car customised you can become an urban street racer in the main Story mode, or choose to race in the traditional Circuit or street-based Drift or Drag modes. With nitrous oxide turbo boosts fitted to your car, hitting the boost button will turn your race into a speed-blurred Hollywood style experience - and with all the traditional Need for Speed cool camera angles intact, this is a race you aren't likely to forget in a hurry.
Once you're king of the road and there's no more challenge to be had in the single player mode, plug in your Network Adaptor (Ethernet) and take your car online. With networked play exclusive to PlayStation 2, you'll be able to race against other PS2 and PC owners in a battle to be the best.
