Saddle up and prepare to mix it up in a range of Motocross, Supercross and Freestyle events in your bid to become the ultimate MX rider
Join legendary rider Travis Pastrana as you embark on a motocross career spanning the sport's three main disciplines - Motocross, Supercross and Freestyle - in Activision's latest action sports offering. You'll start out at Travis' place, where he'll talk you through the basics and show you the ropes on his practice track, before heading onto the circuit to make a name for yourself. Take on the events you want to ride in the order you want to ride them, all the while managing other aspects of your career such as sponsorship. When you're a true master of your steel pony, you can use your Network Adaptor to challenge up to seven other players to compete online in any of the game's 24 international levels.
MTX's non-linear Career mode is where you'll probably be spending the bulk of your time. Once you've got the basic skills mastered, you can compete in a variety of Motocross, Supercross and Freestyle events in any order you choose. It's easy to grasp the basics of MTX Mototrax, but the finer nuances of the sport take some mastering. You start out on modest 125cc bikes, but perform well and you'll soon be trying to tame far more powerful 250cc and 450cc beasts. As the silverware starts to build up, the cash and the sponsorship deals will follow, giving you access to new gear and upgrades. As well going head-to-head with other riders in Supercross and Motocross races, you'll have the opportunity to show off your big air skills in Freestyle events, where style counts for everything.
MTX's courses are pleasingly detailed, the rider models are realistic and the action nips along at a fair old rate of 60fps, all of which makes for a really involving ride. MTX Mototrax's responsive controls and intuitive handling make it easy to jump right in and compete, but it's no easy path to the top. As you progress through the Career mode, the courses become increasingly fiendish and the competition from your AI opponents heats up considerably. But, even if you make it to the top of the pile in Career mode, you needn't stop there. If you've got a Network Adaptor and reckon you've got the skills to compete globally, you can compete against seven human riders in various races and events online.
