So, let's kick off the session with a look at something that makes PlayStation 3 truly unique: the ability to create. There's no denying that the creation of content, and sharing it amongst your community is a powerful new way of communicating. It is enabled by global networks and by its ability to empower each and every individual to express themselves.
Whether it is on Second Life, on Facebook, on Flickr or YouTube, user generated content has captured the imagination, defining the way in which people - increasingly of all ages - engage with entertainment in its broadest sense.
If you happen to own a PS3, then you too can engage in generating your own creative content across a wide variety of our titles and over time in an equally wide variety of communities.
You can start in a small way by building your PlayStation Network profile, and then by customising the look and feel of your cross media bar environment by downloading different themes from the PlayStation Store. For the more adventurous you can even create your own themes using the tools that we have made available.
But the real opportunity comes in the games that you play and we mentioned two of those earlier - SingStar and Buzz!
Take SingStar and its arrival on PlayStation 3. It has now sold over 220,000 copies since launching before Christmas and we have sold over a million songs through the PlayStation Network, with each registered online user buying an average of 6.3 songs.
And My SingStar, which we mentioned earlier, allows you to record a video of you and your friends singing along to any of the 400 plus tracks on SingStar for PlayStation 3 and then upload it to My SingStar Online. This has proved to be one of the most popular features of the title with over 20,000 videos uploaded to My SingStar Online.
These are impressive figures and clearly show the passion with which consumers use the title. If you were in any doubt about that passion just watch this short selection of clips from the uploaded songs! Did you see yourselves in there? Because some of you were...
So, let's move onto Buzz! Buzz!: Quiz TV takes this focus on user generated content a stage further. Not only does Buzz! on PS3 offer over 5,000 on-disc questions across a choice of topic areas, brand new Wireless buzzers, Sofa Vs Sofa online play against teams across the world; and the opportunity to download further quiz packs from the PlayStation Store, but it also gives would-be quiz masters the chance to create their own questions, share them with the community and play them within the game itself.
Simply go to the My Buzz! website, via PC or PS3, and type in your own questions and answers on any topic under the sun. The PlayStation Network then lets registrants export any quiz they want directly into their game menu for free. Whether it's a quiz on a recent family holiday or the ultimate test for true Star Trek fanatics, My Buzz! lets trivia fans create, rate, share and play any question content they want.
Perhaps though the best example of user generated content on PlayStation is LittleBigPlanet, one of our key titles due for release, as Kaz said, in October.
Introducing Sackboy, a completely new character, the game will contain over 50 wonderful environments for you to play in. And for those of you that wish to unleash your creative side, LittleBigPlanet also includes all of the tools to create your own content; whether that is a level, a mini-game or simply an interactive area to share with your friends. These creations can then easily be shared with the rest of the LittleBigPlanet community across our PlayStation Network.
You will be able to play LittleBigPlanet and see how easily content can be made in the Creation zone later this afternoon, but for now let's take a look at some of the creations from the team at Media Molecule.
So let's move on from creation and take a look at some of the evidence that supports Kaz's earlier comments about the power of PS3 as a games machine.
The PS3 is first and foremost a state-of-the-art games machine, and this is no better experienced than in our titles for the dedicated gamer.
For fans of first person shooters, PlayStation 3 is definitely where the action is, with two stunning titles in Killzone 2 and Resistance 2. These two giants share the graphical detail and immersive gameplay that you only get when developers are really exploring how to get the best out of the PS3 - and as we all know from PS2 it is early days yet.
For those who like their action to be intense and dramatic, Killzone 2 will be the must-have title. Launching in February next year, Killzone 2, will deliver a spectacular theatre of war to action gamers. Let's take a look at a short video where the sheer scale of the battlefield is brought to life.
Killzone 2 will of course be playable on the show floor later this afternoon.
Now, for those who are looking for the height of innovation in online combat, we have Resistance 2. We've been delighted by the way the gaming community has embraced the PlayStation Network since we launched just over a year ago, and Resistance has been one of the most successful titles, with over 1.4 million people playing online with a passionate community that has developed around the game.
Now, here to talk to you more about that, and what we can expect from the next episode in the franchise, please welcome Ted Price, President of Insomniac Games, the developer of Resistance 2.

Thank you David. With Resistance 2, we focused equally on four areas. These are what we call the four Cs: community, campaign, co-op and competitive.
David talked about the importance of community and we at Insomniac feel that community is essential to every game these days. We have overhauled resistance.net, introducing social networking like you might see on Facebook or Filckr, allowing you to find Resistance 2 players with similar interests
The campaign for Resistance is not something I'll be showing today, but I still want to say a few words. The campaign features Nathan Hale as he travels back to America. The story answers questions about Hale and the origins of the Chimera
With co-op we're definitely breaking new ground with eight player online co-op, different classes, character progression and experience-based rewards.
But today I want to focus on competitive. With Resistance we're upping the ante in terms of size, supporting 60 players online. To ensure that with such numbers it doesn't devolve into chaos, our rallying cry for Resistance 2 is massive battles but with more intimacy. There are five skirmishes within the main battle and dynamic assignments that change as the battle progresses. To avoid squads being stuck in corners, rival squads have the same objective and therefore you build an intense hatred with the five or six players on rival squads.
If someone cheap shots me from a rival squad, I can get at him. We have a rewards system that rewards team work. These can be used to earn persistent rewards in the game, to level up - we'll be talking about that more in the coming months.
We think it's going to be breaking new ground for PS3 and online play - but that's just a quarter of the game - as we get closer to the launch stay tuned for more info.

I think that gives you an idea as to where our games are heading and exactly what is possible on PlayStation 3. Another game coming out very soon is the PS3 exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The concluding chapter of Hideo Kojima's legendary Metal Gear Solid saga is set to launch in Europe on 12th June and I am pleased to announce that we will be launching an exclusive Metal Gear Solid Bundle. This is something that a lot of the Metal Gear fans have been screaming out for and I am very excited about the impact this will have.
Perhaps with even broader appeal to a more mainstream audience is a title like MotorStorm.
When we introduced PS3 we took the decision to show the capability of PS3 though a new sport of off-road racing and we kicked off our tournament against the High Definition backdrop of Monument Valley. The environment lent itself spectacularly well to the superior graphics quality of PS3, and MotorStorm has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide since the launch of PlayStation 3.
I am delighted to be able to introduce to you today the successor to MotorStorm, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, a title that brings you stunning graphics, incredibly detailed environments and raw, thrilling off-road racing.

Thank you David. Good afternoon everybody. I'm Paul Hollywood, Creative Director at Evolution Studios. We've been making off-road racing games for over eight years.
I'd like to begin by telling you what makes MotorStorm such an important title
MotorStorm is one of the best action racing games because we always put the player at the centre of the action. We've brought something fresh to the genre.
There is never a rest in the action - what I'm talking about here is brutal off-road racing. So what next?
Well what I'm about to show you is no ordinary sequel. We haven't just updated the graphics and added a two at the end. We've added ultra-aggressive AI, a wide range of vehicle destruction, greater variety of attack manoeuvres and races punctuated by unpredictable events.
But this is not brutal enough. So, as the sun sets on our iconic desert setting of the first game, let me tell you of a new nemesis; a dangerous unpredictable foe awaits you. Welcome to the island.
Inspiration came from the stunning islands of Hawaii where we saw volcanoes, dense jungle, towering peaks, dark swamps, fast flowing rivers and huge waterfalls - Hawaii had everything we needed. But this is MotorStorm; so no hula girls and definitely no Elvis. We mashed them together and created the island - the island is now your greatest enemy, challenging you to plough through foliage and teeter along ravines, and escape the deadly volcanic interior.
Using these elemental features, we combined them and crafted 16 new tracks - this is twice as many tracks as in the first outing.
Let me show you one of these tracks. As you can see, we show off our trademark visuals - but this is not just a pretty backdrop.
Our brand new vegetation technology is there to be bent, squashed, snapped and crushed. It also fights back so that only larger vehicles can force their way through. Smaller vehicles have to go round, over or follow larger vehicles.
Water is everywhere, and like the vegetation we did not want it to be passive. Our brand new water technology has forces, flows and gives buoyancy; it also provides drag and cools engines, adding a new tactical dimension to the racing.
And let's not forget MotorStorm is still a racing game...
In our racing game, you have a unique set of vehicles to choose from, each with their own characteristics. We have a wide range: agile bikes, sure footed ATVs, speedy rally cars, all-round racing trucks, sturdy mudpluggers and unstoppable big rigs.
But let me introduce you to our new son: the Monster Truck. Not purely a racing machine, It's a climber - big wheels let it go anywhere - , a sprinter - fast off the mark but worry about cornering - and a predator - it loves to crush smaller vehicles. When you're in the truck, you're not just here to race, you're here to bully - because breaking things for fun is what brutal off-road racing is all about.
And not just online; we've listened to the fans and added split-screen racing for up to four players.
And finally, MotorStorm is not just a game, it's a way of life: the festival, the music, the attitude - this is what we've added to make off-road racing cool. It's not ATV or MX; this is brutal off-road racing on a dangerous and unpredictable tropical island.

Thanks Paul. Finally in this section on mainstream games I would like to introduce you to a new cutting-edge game. The game is being developed by a team with a rich gaming heritage at EA DICE studio in Stockholm. I am of course talking about Mirror's Edge.

I'm very happy to be here today to show you Mirror's Edge - it's a brand new Action Adventure game from the DICE studio at EA. Our team in Stockholm is extremely excited to be developing Mirror's Edge for PS3 because we're really able to realise the vision we have for the game for this platform.
But first let me give you a little more background on what Mirror's Edge is all about.
The game takes place in a fictional city where the transport of information is closely monitored. People who want to communicate away from these prying eyes use Runners: extremely athletic, agile couriers who operate via the rooftops and skyways. You play a runner called Faith who runs into a large conspiracy and is being hunted herself as a result.
What sets this game apart from other action adventures is its unique first person perspective on movement. First person gives you a more immediate, visceral experience - it's like the difference between watching an action movie and being in an action movie.
You are about to step into Faith's shoes - see what she sees, feel what she feels. You will see freedom of movement like never before experienced in a first person game; and thanks to the incredible processing power of the PS3 we are really able to realise the vision I am talking about in the game Mirror's Edge.
Since we first announced Mirror's Edge there has been a lot of speculation about how this will actually work in game - and today I am very happy to be able to show it to you. The trailer you are about to see is all actual in-game footage and will be released later this week in High Definition on the PlayStation Network.

Now, with the excitement of the Sony sponsored UEFA Champions League building to a climax I would like to take a look at how PlayStation fits into the world of sport.
PlayStation is a mecca for sports with more than 18 sports, from basketball to snowboarding represented in PlayStation games; truly a sport for every possible interest. You can test your reflexes on many of these in the Sport zone but I would like to focus on two today - motorsport and football.
On the track, the Gran Turismo franchise is rightly regarded as the world's best driving simulator. The launch of GT5 Prologue in April confirmed the pre-eminence of GT in this genre and the quality of graphics achieved by the team at Polyphony Digital is quite stunning. Add to that a 16 player online mode, and you have a winner that has already sold over one and a half million copies.
And we recognise that this sort of racing is for many more than a game - it is as we said a passion around which communities and friendships are formed. We already have a dedicated TV channel on PlayStation Network - GTTV - but for a true PlayStation experience we need more.
To celebrate the title I am pleased to announce today, in conjunction with our friends at Nissan, what I think you will agree is one of the most exciting and valuable competitions we have ever run.
PlayStation and Nissan Europe have been long-time partners on a number of projects. Nissan provided vehicles, racing drivers and feedback to help perfect the game's ultra-realistic driving simulation. The roles were reversed however, last year when Nissan called upon Polyphony Digital to design an onboard computer for the Nissan GT-R.
PlayStation and Nissan are pleased to announce the ultimate competitive driving test - the GT Academy. In a pan-European competition spanning seven months, virtual and real-life racing will come together to make the wildest dreams of two aspiring young race drivers come true. The prize: a four-month training programme to earn their racing licenses followed by a real-life race driving a Nissan 350Z as part of the official Nissan team at the 24-hour Dubai race in January 2009.

Nissan and Sony have developed a strong relationship for several years - and we can safely say that thanks to their inclusion in Gran Turismo, many Nissan cars have a cult following throughout the world. As David has mentioned, the collaboration on the GT-R computer interface is an industry first and underlines the crossover between the real and virtual driving worlds.
The development of GT Academy is natural extension to our relationship. Like millions of car enthusiasts, I have spent many hours driving the world's best cars in the game and have often wondered if I could make the grade in a real race.
Maybe some of you fancy your chances too.

As a footnote to Simon's comments, every round of the GT Academy will be filmed and made available on the PlayStation Network and a number of lucky journalists will be able to accompany the winning drivers to report on the competition and to take part in the training.
Now, football is the most widely watched sport across Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has a long association with the beautiful game, having been a main sponsor of the UEFA Champions League for many years. Last year, we were joined in our sponsorship of the Champions League by our sister company Sony Europe, and also last year Sony Corporation became one of the main sponsors of the FIFA football World Cup for 2010 and 2014.
Our involvement with FIFA has centred on our sponsorship, in partnership with Electronic Arts, of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, a unique global virtual football tournament, in which players from around the world compete on FIFA 08 on PS3 and online via PSN.
This year's tournament is now reaching its peak. After seven months of intense competition, with 20 live qualifying events all over the world and over 25,000 online participants, we now have 32 finalists who are anxious to show their skills at the Grand Final in Berlin's Sony Centre in two weeks time.
This is a terrific tournament and PlayStation, Electronic Arts and FIFA are all looking forward to developing the tournament over the coming years.
Now it will not have escaped your attention that earlier this year Blu-ray emerged as the clear winner of the next generation disc battle. This success was due principally to the large number of PlayStation 3s in the market, each with a built in Blu-ray player. In Europe there are over 5 million Blu-ray players in homes, and the sales growth of Blu-ray movies in Europe shows that PlayStation 3 owners are embracing the new format and enjoying watching movies in the highest definition possible.
Nowhere is this more evident than the interest in the new format BD-Live, the format that allows users to experience the very highest forms of interactivity with their movie, through connection to the Internet. Studios are embracing this opportunity to redefine how viewers experience their movies on Blu-ray, and Sony Pictures is at the forefront of this viewing revolution. To show us some of the potential of BD Live please welcome Simon McDowell, Senior Vice President Europe for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

As David mentioned, PS3 has been one of the major reasons behind Blu-ray's remarkable success.
In fact, thanks to PlayStation's support, Blu-ray software sales in Europe are currently approaching three and a half million units to date.
And in the first quarter of this year alone, nearly 1.4 million Blu-ray Discs have been sold into the European markets.
Consumers have really responded to Blu-ray's ability to deliver the ultimate entertainment experience.
Whether it's the amazing full 1080p High Def picture quality...
Or its 7.1 channel sound ...
Or having the capacity to hold multiple versions of the same movie on a single disc.
For all these reasons, Blu-ray is changing the way people perceive motion pictures, the way they perceive concert videos and of course the way they perceive High Def games as well.
And with more than 34 million homes in Western Europe already enjoying HDTV, Blu-ray hardware sales are poised to explode this year.
As the leading Blu-ray studio - with nearly one out of every four discs sold - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is proud to have played such a strategic role in Blu-ray's growth to date.
We're also leading the way in expanding Blu-ray beyond just content, thanks to BD-Live and other new exciting interactive features.
Last month, Sony Pictures in the US released our first BD-Live titles with Walk Hard and The Sixth Day. These were timed to coincide with PS3's profile 2.0 upgrade.
In the first week alone, over 20% of people who bought these titles activated the BD-Live feature. Plus, over 75%of them downloaded extra Sony Pictures digital content.
Today, I'm pleased to announce that from June 16th, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release its first BD-Live enabled disc outside the US, with the arrival of the classic sci-fi comedy Men In Black in selected international markets.
The 1997 blockbuster Men In Black is back and looking better than ever on Blu-ray. This High Def version brings a variety of network-connected features to the Blu-ray Disc platform for the very first time in international markets and this includes an interactive trivia game and exclusive downloadable materials.
All of this can be enjoyed on your PS3 – the first full profile Blu-ray Disc player on the market.

As you can see, BD-Live is pretty exciting stuff.
And it makes Blu-ray the only High Def platform that offers the very best in both physical and digital entertainment.

Staying with film for a moment I wanted to talk a little bit more about the experiences we are offering the PlayStation community. I am very happy to announce more details on Go!View, our joint venture with Sky to provide video on-demand programming for the 2.7 million PSP users in the UK. When it launches on June 30th Go!View will be the first official video download service for the PSP of its kind in Europe.
Our agreement with Sky naturally covers more than just movies, and encompasses TV and movie content that reflects Sky's leading position as a hugely successful aggregator of entertainment content.
Go!View will be available as either a subscription model or on a pay-per-view basis, and will enable PSP owners to build up their own unique TV schedule on their PSP. Let's take a short look at a video on what we can expect from Go!View.
Go!View is currently just for PSP in the UK but we are in active discussion with a number of operators on the continent, where the service will launch next month. It is also of course no secret that we would like to introduce a similar service on PlayStation 3 - so watch this space!
Before I move on, I'd just like to mention the capability of PS3 via its DLNA feature. This allows videos, images and music to be either streamed to the PS3 from a desktop PC on a home network or copied to the PS3 hard drive, making it the ideal library for music, stills and video content you want to be able to access in the living room.
Over the last few years, social gaming has really become a mainstream activity and has helped to make gaming an acceptable, even desirable, pastime in the eyes of a previously very cynical public.
We kick-started this move to social gaming with the likes of Dance Dance Revolution and EyeToy providing great games for kids, teens and families - not to mention camera-monitored training and workouts for fitness fans - and then we took it further with the likes of SingStar and latterly Buzz!.
These titles have proved incredibly successful, with SCEE sales of 6.7 million for EyeToy, 12 million for SingStar and 7 million for Buzz! including the hugely successful Buzz! Junior range. In some of our territories, such as Germany and Scandinavia, SingStar has been constantly at the top of the charts for months at a time.
Our strategy for the PS2 based titles has been to expand the range of titles available for these franchises and increasingly localise the song content to local markets. We now localise SingStar into 14 different languages. This growth on PS2 has been matched now with a move for both SingStar and Buzz! onto the PlayStation 3 platform.
You will find many titles on the show floor that appeal to younger audiences, families and friends, including the exciting new EyeToy Play: Hero, designed for young adventurers and comes complete with a toy sword that interacts with the EyeToy camera. There is also PomPom party, for those girls with a passion for pompom shaking.
Finally in this section, let me just mention echochrome. echochrome is a title that has already generated lots of interest. Utilising a unique gameplay mechanism in which you change the perspective to progress in the puzzle, echochrome has been described as a 21st Century Rubik's Cube for the PlayStation generation.
Fiendishly addictive and with as many subtleties and strategies as advanced Sudoku, it is a title that is equally engrossing on either the PSP or on PS3. Let's have a look at a short video.

Moving on, then, SingStar is the musical introduction to PlayStation, combining as it does, a love of music, performing and singing. Music is a tremendously important part of the lives of our PlayStation consumers with the vast majority of 18 to 24 year olds listening to music through the Internet, on the radio, on music players, on their PSP or on their mobiles as a central part of their lifestyle.
This abiding passion for music helps to explain the success of established titles like SingStar - but also the rise of music making games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. With combined sales of over 15 million, these two last products are broadening the participation of music lovers in gaming.
We are also keen to expose our consumers to new music, and for this reason we have undertaken a Europe-wide search for new, up-and-coming music talent.
The project, known as Movement, is an exclusive PlayStation Network music experience that will introduce PlayStation 3 owners to some great new unsigned acts from across Europe. Our hosts Spencer and Martin will be tracking down the hottest sounds across the continent in their VW Combi and uploading performances and travelogue footage from their tour onto the PlayStation Network. Again great music and great programmes from PlayStation, perfect for at home or to take on the road with PSP. Here's a sneak peak of what they got up to on the first leg of their road trip. The search for new talent goes on.
Many of you will have seen a demo of PlayTV, our innovative peripheral which allows you to watch, record and playback live terrestrial digital TV and I am delighted to tell you that you will be able to experience Play TV for yourselves on the show floor. PlayTV launches in September and will retail at 99 Euros.
A key focus of our activity is to provide a very high level of connectivity between PS3 and PSP. Every programme you watch on PlayTV and record to your hard drive can be exported to the cross media bar and stored there with your other videos. In addition, you can watch live TV and recorded programmes on your PSP by using the Remote Play feature. And of course it is not just only TV programmes you can watch in Remote Play. Any content stored on your PS3 hard drive including videos, music and photos can all be viewed via Remote Play.
Now, a key requirement of any successful adventure is being able to get to your destination, which is where Go!Explore, another great PSP travel product, will come in very handy.
We launched this last week in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, with other major territories to follow next month in June. This state-of-the-art satellite navigation system has been created with the travel experts at Tele Atlas and Nav N Go. It includes detailed 3D maps of key cities, together with the main sites and multi-lingual voiceovers. Of course, updates, new maps, voices and points of interest can all be downloaded from the PSP Store, keeping your Go!Explore current and up to date.
Talking of the PC Store for PSP, starting in the summer you can expect to see electronic versions of classic UMD titles, available for download direct to your PSP to while away those long journeys.
So if you are on the go and want to keep in touch with Go!Messenger, keep up to date with the latest films, play your favourite games, listen to your favourite tunes and get to the destination on time then PSP is definitely the one to pack.
So as we draw to the close of this session, I want to cast our minds back briefly to when I last had the opportunity to speak to many of you in this sort of forum back at Games Convention in Leipzig last August. At that time I laid out the titles that we were planning to launch this year and outlined some of our hardware targets.
As you have seen this afternoon, we are pleased to be able to report that we have delivered on those promises, particularly in the case of PS3, where we predicted sales of 4 million units in our region and we have actually sold over 5 million. This success can be attributed to the quality of software that we are launching. Games such as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Grand Theft Auto 4 have led the way and now with exclusive titles such as Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and MotorStorm, customers are now buying into PS3 as the ultimate gaming system.
Particularly pleasing is the performance of our online business. PlayStation Network has proved remarkably popular, enjoying exponential growth and we now have over 3.2 registrants on the network, who between them have downloaded over a staggering 57 million items from the PlayStation Store.
As I mentioned earlier on, PlayStation Network is key to our strategy for the coming years and I very much look forward to reporting back to you the progress we have made this time next year at what I hope will become an annual event.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. The future we believe is looking very bright for PlayStation.
