|Release date:||27 February 2009|
Spanning King Of Fighters 94 through to 98, this high-kicking collection replays the classic storyline of the Orochi Saga....
Featuring five breathtaking brawling games, The King Of Fighters Collection begins in 1994, where invitations to the fighters in the renowned tournament have been sent to the globe's greatest warriors, before moving on to the mysterious events of King Of Fighter's '95 where invitations to enter the competition have been issued, marked with only the letter R. Could this be Rugal, the fighter who reportedly died on his aircraft carrier the year before? You'll have to compete to find out those answers...
Then there is the 1996 instalment in the series, the first time the event becomes a major international sporting tournament that sees fighters Geese Howard, Wolfgang Krauser, and Mr. BIG form a team to compete. The threesome were once responsible for trying to conquer the world and are now merely contestants, bringing a dark cloud to this now officially recognised event.
Picking up right where King Of Fighters '96 left off, and after the events of a reported terrorist attack, the 1997 edition sees all the world's attention focused on this latest gathering of world brawlers as they compete for the crown. And for those who have followed the series since inception through to this point, King Of Fighter's '98 pits 38 classic characters in the ultimate battle. So, are you tough enough to be crowned king of the ring?

Trade blows with The King of Fighters
The King of Fighters series hits PSP for the first time, with The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga.
For those not familiar with the King of Fighters games, Japanese developer SNK has been creating the 2D beat 'em ups since 1994, bringing together characters from their other titles, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier. Now, the first five games in the series are available on one UMD in The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga, so called because it follows the story of the Orochi clan.
The King of Fighters '94 is where it begins, introducing the three vs three Team Battle System that runs throughout. Each player selects one of the eight available teams, each representing a nationality, and enters them into the battle one by one. If a fighter is defeated, he or she is eliminated, and the winner is the first to defeat all three of their opponent's competitors.
The story revolves around Rugal Bernstein, an arms and drugs trafficker and a skilled fighter who, bored with a lack of competition, decides to host a new King of Fighters tournament. With each game, the story gets more elaborate, the graphics improve and the cast of characters grows bigger and more varied. The King of Fighters '95 is the first to introduce a Team Edit feature, allowing you to assemble the trio of your choice.
Gameplay remains consistent throughout, sticking to the simple blocks, punches, kicks and special moves that have attracted so many fans over the years. The final title, The King of Fighters '98, features no story and almost every character in the history of the series is playable, even those that had supposedly died during the course of the plot.
This gentle evolution of the series is one of the aspects of The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga sure to appeal to its fans, not to mention the chance to play their favourite beat 'em up on the move. You can also take on friends in Ad Hoc Mode, and take on a Challenge mode, in which you have to meet certain conditions to progress, such as filling your special move meter or pulling off an elaborate attack.
With five classic games, multiplayer and other modes and features, The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga represents good value for fans of the series.
Pick up The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga for PSP and celebrate a decade of stylish beat 'em up action, wherever you are.
