Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) unveils exciting details about the next generation portable form PlayStation along with new game titles.

On the eve of E3 in Los Angeles, SCEE unveiled a stunning line-up of PlayStation products, services and exclusive content that will change the way consumers experience their favourite games and entertainment at home and on the go.

"These latest announcements continue to demonstrate our commitment to delivering consumers the rich experiences that have made PlayStation a gaming and entertainment leader for 15 years," said Andy House, CEO and President of SCEE. "The official unveiling of PlayStation Vita plus an exciting array of software, hardware and services, means that the PlayStation platform has never been a more exciting place to be. Over the coming year we will see PlayStation Vita usher in a whole new kind of portable gaming, plus we can expect widespread adoption of 3D technologies that will give PlayStation users experiences like never before."

Introducing PlayStation®Vita

In 2005, PSP defined new standards in portable entertainment and provided game enthusiasts worldwide with a new way to experience games outside of their living room. PSP broke through traditional boundaries then and has gone on to sell more than 70 million units up until April 2011 since its launch.

In January 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) announced a new portable device for a new generation of gamers - initially code-named NGP, the next generation portable entertainment system was officially give the name PlayStation Vita at E3. The Wireless only model will be available for €249 (RRP) in Europe and is set to hit the global market starting at the end of 2011.

Derived from the Latin word "Vita", which means "Life", this next generation portable entertainment system enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.

PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. Together with the front touchscreen and the rear touch pad, PS Vita offers new gameplay possibilities, allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" finger motions. In addition, PS Vita features dual analog sticks which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable experience.

On the content front, SCEE showcased a robust collection of software titles developed exclusively for PS Vita. Featured titles including Uncharted Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet and Ruin (working title), utilise the platform's groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social gameplay available on the go.

Uncharted Golden Abyss takes full advantage of the PS Vita system's stunning OLED screen to deliver vibrant cinematic visuals and combines input from the front touchscreen and dual analog sticks to create the most intuitive third person action adventure experience available on a portable system.

Also making use of the system's unique features, LittleBigPlanet allows users to Play, Create and Share like never before with the system's front touchscreen and rear touch pad as well as its front and rear cameras.

Finally, Ruin (working title) provides the ultimate social action role-playing experience and delivers cross-compatibility for players to save their game on PS Vita and continue playing at home on PlayStation 3.

Adding to this selection of innovative games, SCEE unveiled a collection of PS Vita titles that will be available at launch including WipEout 2048 (working title), ModNation Racers (working title), Reality Fighters (working title), Super Stardust Delta, Sound Shapes (working title), Everybody's Golf (working title), Hustle Kings and more.

Additionally, conference attendees received a look at Capcom's STREET FIGHTER x TEKKEN for PS Vita which will feature Cole MacGrath as a playable character from the popular PS3 series, inFamous.

PS3 keeps on growing

Currently in its fifth year, PlayStation 3 continues to experience tremendous momentum, recently surpassing 50 million units sold worldwide.

To date, more than 2,300 games have been made available for PS3 including 108 stereoscopic 3D titles and 184 PlayStation Move titles, and that momentum continues into 2012.

Expanding the PS3 system's industry-leading catalogue of 3D games, SCEE presented a selection of new entries from popular series including Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Resistance 3 and God of War Collection Volume II.

SCEE also announced the return of one of longest-running and most loved series on PlayStation: Sly Cooper®: Thieves in Time, will treat players to an all new adventure in 3D featuring classic characters Sly, Murray and Bentley.

In addition, SCEE introduced new titles utilising the innovative PlayStation Move motion controller to deliver unique motion gaming experiences such as DanceStar Party, Carnival Island and Medieval Moves. Also highlighted during the conference were eagerly anticipated PS3 exclusives including Twisted Metal and Starhawk.

In addition to an unprecedented line-up of SCEE titles, support from other publishers for PS3 has never been stronger. Content shown at the conference included the highly anticipated first-person shooter BioShock Infinite from Irrational Games and 2K which will support both PlayStation Move and 3D, and will also include the original BioShock on the Blu-ray Disc. Irrational Games also announced a PS Vita title set in the BioShock universe.

Additional exclusive content that will only be found on PS3 was announced for titles including Saint's Row from THQ, and Electronic Arts' SSX™ and, Need for Speed™ The Run.

Innovations in stereoscopic 3D

As a leader in 3D entertainment and gaming, the 2011 press conference at E3 kicked off on the world's largest 3D monitor – showcasing a breadth of titles coming this year in 3D that is unmatched.

SCEE also announced the upcoming availability of the new PlayStation branded 3D Display. Available worldwide, the 24-inch full HD LCD display gives PS3 users easy, affordable access to 3D entertainment.

Designed to deliver the ultimate gaming experience, the 3D Display comes equipped with a special two-player feature that allows two players playing a multiplayer game to see individual, unique, full-screen images of gameplay using the bundled 3D Glasses and supported software title.

PlayStation Network

With more than 77 million accounts worldwide, PSN continues to be one of the largest networked entertainment platforms in the world and is the premier destination for games, movies and music entertainment.

Publisher support for PlayStation Network continues to remain strong as CCP introduced a new PSN exclusive title, Dust 514, which will feature PlayStation Move support and also be made available for PS Vita.

Another exciting game coming exclusively to PS3 and PSN in 2012 is from Paramount Games. Based on the upcoming Star Trek movie and timed to coincide with the movie's release, it will be fully PlayStation Move enabled and features exclusive PS3 content. Paramount Games will also offer an exclusive prequel to the game, which will be available only on PSN.
